Barcamp Himachal
Whooa! There’s a Barcamp coming up in Himachal. It’s on 28th June 2009. It’ll be hot in the plains, burning hot. Shimla will be umm-so-cool. But someone has decided to set it scorching with activity. Ain’t it a good idea to enjoy a high summer weekend in Shimla doing some brain storming and ideating? Add to that the wicked satisfaction of getting to pester others with our fundaas. And who knows we might find a holy soul to like and fund any of ours our only-I-could –come-up-with-such-a-brilliantly-unique-goddamn-money-spinning-socially-sensitive-business-idea.
Why Barcamp Himachal?
It’s the first ever in Himachal Pradesh; Shimla – to be precise. The focus this time is Information Technology. Why, because there is plenty of silica and lots of valleys around Shimla hills. Who knows Shimla nestled at 6988 feet in the heart of Himalayas might spell a charm akin to Silicon Valley. Himachal is believed to be an ideal destination for IT industry because of conducive environment, surplus electricity, good connectivity, low real estate prices and abundant yet affordable manpower. So what’s required is that one little push.
This Barcamp is being organised in the state under this backdrop to attract a new breed of entrepreneurs who are willing to collaborate, to learn from each other and establish IT business in the state. It’s a place where the tech tycoons and future techhies come together to share the ideas, of how they can develop and promote the sector they are working in. We believe that participation from senior bar campers all over the country will give upstarts and students of Himachal an exposure to latest in the world of Technology. Also we hope that Shimla will come as a welcome break to our fellow campers during this Great Indian Summer.
Once the IT industry sets rolling and we have our own Silicon Valley, who knows we in Shimla might get to rent out our homes and sell our land at exorbitant prices to well earning techhies.

So register now, and puleeeze cancel your registration so that some shucks-the-registrations-ran-out-or-I’d-have-had-them-all-bowing-to-me guy is not left sulking.
But – Isn’t it funny how there’s always a ‘But’ – for all you know there may be some seats available for the last minute or walk-in registrations. So do check out if you are one of those who fall for last-day-today offers.
If you’ve a hang of the Barcamp idea, don’t waste your worth-its-weight-in-gold time (Pun intended! On second thoughts, was there a pun at all?!!!) reading this, and register now.
Of course guys, you’ll make your own arrangements for travelling and boarding. Since tourist coming tumbling and mumbling this time of the year, it’ll do you immense good if you booked for your stay in advance. If not try the luxurious dorms at a gurudwara or a temple. Sad! They don’t let you sprawl on the Mall Road.
